     Now accepting applications for CSA shares for July, August and September in Belchertown and Amherst.

     We are frequently asked if sides of beef are available. The answer is " yes". For more information on pricing and availability please call Michael at 413-668-6843.

 Farmers Markets

     The farmers markets are in full swing around the area. Spring greens, radishes, carrots, green garlic, kale and other veggies can be found. Offerings of cheese, buttermilk, flowers, maple, beef, lamb, goat and pork add to the fan fare of choices to behold. Come to your local market and support our farmers.

     Austin Farm can be found at an area market perhaps near you. Amherst Farmers Market on Saturday from 7:00-1:30, Central Square Farmers Market on Mondays from 12:00-6:00 and South Hadley Farmers Market on Thursdays from 1:00-6:00. The farm store is open daily but please call ahead before stopping during the week. 413-668-6843.

     Continuing Education

    Michael Austin  ( herd manager ) and Jim Austin ( son) recently attended the Graham School for Cattlemen in Kanas. While at the Graham School they had the opportunity to have classroom and hands on involvement with herd management. During class time  they discussed diagnosing pregnancy, artifical insemination, calf delivery and herd management.

   Through open discussion they learned reproductive anatomy, locating the reproductive organs,  stages of pregnancy and live animal evaluation. Progressing through the week with hands on clinics they were given information on nutritional cycling of cows, proper time of insemination,handling of semen, and placement of semen in the reproductive tract. Michael and Jim are now both fully trained A.I. technicians.

    The underlying message throughout the week long session of herd management  is practicality and common sense. Continuing education is an investment in our herd. We strive for optimal healthy management for our herd to bring you the best cattle Austin Farm can offer.
